Admitting International Students

The OISS's ability to issue I-20s and DS-2019s are based on Tulane University's I-17 (Petition for Approval of School for Attendance by Nonimmigrant Student), which designates us as a SEVP (Student and Exchange Visitor Program) Certified school. Regulations require SEVP-certified institutions to report any changes to the Form I-17. Learn more.

Below you will be able to review the training materials and forms for specific information on admitting international students at Tulane.

If the students to be admitted are part of a special group (meaning that the programs do not coincide with the regular academic calendar) please visit Hosting Special Groups.

International Student Orientation and Pre-departure Communications Coordination

All international students will be added to OISS Online Orientation in Canvas and receive a series of pre-departure emails encouraging them to work through the content before they arrive in the United States.  The online orientation that will support their coming to Tulane University in addition to an in-person orientation. Justin Reid, jreid4@tulane.edu, coordinates both of these initiatives. Please reach out if you would like to be added to the online orientation or have any questions.

Other Things to Share with OISS

Please notify the OISS immediately if a student is considering:

  • Dropping classes
  • Taking a leave of absence
  • Withdrawing from Tulane
  • Studying or conducting research abroad;

or if a student is on academic probation or being asked to leave the university.

All of these events will affect the student's immigration status, so OISS needs to counsel students on the outcomes in person before the student takes any action.

International Student Concerns

Go to tulane.edu/concerns and report any issues around student welfare, well-being, crime, or other challenges immediately.

The OISS receives Maxient reports about international students so that we can follow up. We depend on your contact with students to be able to help them in difficult situations.
