Welcoming the World: Faculty & Staff Development Series

Through a partnership with Human Resources Talent Development, our office is offers a development series to equip the Tulane community with tools to work effectively with international students and scholars. Participants will learn immigration rules, intercultural tips, and key topics like admissions and work authorization to foster an inclusive, globally minded campus.

On Campus Employment and Tax Considerations for International Students

Join us for an informative session on hiring international students. We’ll review international student employment eligibility, hiring procedures, discuss key U.S. and international tax considerations with international students.

Supporting International Student Retention: From Early Recruitment to Arrival

Learn how early recruitment and coordinated pre-arrival support can improve visa appointment outcomes and strengthen international student retention. This session will cover key stages of the student journey, including admission, financial documentation, immigration document issuance, visa preparation, and orientation. Participants will explore how proactive planning and cross-campus collaboration can help students arrive prepared, transition successfully, and remain engaged through enrollment.

Sponsoring International Scholars and Employees: Visas, Documentation, and Hiring Timelines

Join us for an overview of the employment-based visa options available to international scholars and employees. This session will explain the sponsorship process, required documentation, key responsibilities, and expected timelines for hiring international scholars, staff, and faculty. Participants will also learn how early planning and coordination can support a smoother immigration and onboarding process.

Sponsoring Tulane Employees for Lawful Permanent Residence
Wednesday, January 27 | 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM | Zoom

Learn about Tulane’s policy and process for sponsoring employees for lawful permanent residence, commonly known as a Green Card. This session will cover eligibility requirements, how to begin the sponsorship process, required fees, and responsibility for payment. Participants will also gain a clearer understanding of the roles, expectations, and key steps involved.

Supporting International Students Through Policy and Immigration Changes

Explore how evolving immigration and institutional policies can affect international students’ academic progress, well-being, and sense of security. This session will provide practical strategies for supporting students through changes and what the non-OISS staff role is with students. Participants will also learn about Tulane resources that can help international students navigate uncertainty and remain engaged and successful.

International Student Graduation and Program Completion: What Faculty and Staff Need to Know
