As an international student, you may need a student visa in order to embark on your Tulane University studies. The Office of International Students and Scholars will work with your admitting office in order to provide your F-1 and J-1 immigration documents and any F-2 and J-2 documents for your dependents.

F-1 or J-1 Status: Which is Best for You?
F-1 Students
F-1 visas are the most common status for university students. Any source of financial support is acceptable and on-campus employment does not require a work permit.

J-1 Students
To register as a J-1 student, you must have:
- Financial support for all of your school and living expenses, including additional financial support for any accompanying family members, for the duration of your degree program as determined by normative time
- 51% or more of your total financial support comes from an institutional or government sponsor in the form of a scholarship, fellowship, assistantship, stipend, tuition waiver, or other direct support provided specifically for the educational program. Personal, loans, or support from family or individuals do not qualify.
You can also qualify for J-1 visas if you are participating in a specific educational exchange program (see below).

The Office of International Students and Scholars at Tulane University is pleased to administer services for sponsored international students and their sponsors. We serve as the central point of contact and as liaison to faculty, departments, Graduate Admissions offices, Admissions, Housing and Accounts Receivable.

Financial Aid
While international students are ineligible for government-based tuition assistance, Tulane University does offer limited scholarships, grants and need-based scholarships for students who qualify.
