Any student granted a leave of absence for any reason must have their leave approved by OISS for them to properly maintain their immigration record. U.S. immigration regulations further require the termination of the student immigration status of any international student dismissed or placed upon probation for academic or disciplinary reasons, where they are unable to register for a full course load each semester
OISS Notification Requirements
OISS must be notified in advance any time an international student in F-1 or J-1 visa status is granted a leave of absence; is dismissed or placed on probation for academic or disciplinary reasons; or is not enrolled in a full course of study. OISS must be notified so that they can properly manage Tulane’s immigration compliance and also advise and support the international student. Failure to comply with immigration requirements could result in significant fines for the university, and potentially the loss of the ability to accept international students at all.
