I-17 Program of Study List

In order for Tulane to remain an institution that enrolls international students, regulations require us to accurately maintain Form I-17, “Petition for Approval of School for Attendance by Nonimmigrant Student.” Staff members in the OISS maintain the I-17 and it is reviewed by the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP). SEVP-certified institutions are required to keep all Form I-17 sections up to date in order to ensure the Form I-17 reflects the institution’s current operating status. Failure to follow the regulations may result in withdrawal of Tulane’s SEVP certification.

  • Any new programs of study must be approved by SEVP before OISS can issue immigration documents for international students to enroll in that program. Currently, updates to the I-17 are taking up to a year or longer. OISS submitted an update to the I-17 in October of 2018 and is still waiting for approval.
  • Given the long processing times, please email OISS Director Kristy Magner immediately if you have created a new program of study since October 2018 or if you have plans to add a new program of study.
