New Registration Requirements and Address Reporting

Dear Tulane International Community,

As part of our continuing effort to keep our international community informed on changes in immigration laws, we write to share that on April 11, 2025 a new rule will come into effect that requires all non-immigrants to register with the US and to keep their address updated within 10 days of moving.

Registration Program

Most non-immigrants have already been already registered. If you’ve been granted a visa or received an I-94 upon inspection at a US border, then you have already been registered.  If you are a citizen of Canada or Bermuda and entered the US at a land crossing or otherwise have not received an I-94, then you have not been registered and can submit your registration by accessing the USCIS Registration Page. Dependent children who were under 14 at the time of entry in the US, have not been registered and can submit their registration on the USCIS Registration page

Address Updates

Even if you are not required to register again, you must ensure that your address is accurately reported either in SEVIS or with USCIS within 10 days of moving. This is not a new requirement but the new rule highlights the importance of accurately reporting your address.  Failure to comply can now carry serious consequences including a possible misdemeanor criminal charge punishable by a fine of up to $5,000 or up to 30 days of jailtime.  F-1 and J-1 students and former students on OPT should report address changes within 10 days of moving by accessing the Address Update eform in iGlobal.  All other individuals who need to report address changes should do so by accessing form AR-11 in their USCIS portal

As always, OISS remains committed to providing updates as immigration rules and regulations change.  If you have any questions, please reach out to your advisor or make an appointment
