Beth Nazar joined the Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) in 2012. She has served in various positions in the office and in her new role as Assistant Director Beth will oversee OISS operations and outreach to the Tulane community including communications and programming. Everyone who knows Beth has been witness to her enthusiasm for connecting with people and community involvement. This new role fits very well with her interests and skills.
Outside of her work in OISS, Beth has volunteered with Krewe du TU since 2013 and has participated in various Wave of Green days of service. She has been a proxy or representative in the Staff Advisory Council since 2014 and served as Chair of SAC from 2016-2018.
Beth holds an M.A. in Romance Languages from the University of New Orleans and a B.A. in International Relations with a minor in Latin American Studies from Tufts University. During much of the over twenty years that Beth has been in the field of international education, she has been an active member of NAFSA, frequently volunteering for leadership roles, attending and presenting at conferences.
Before Tulane, Beth worked in the field as an independent ESL teacher and as Assistant to the Dean at Lincoln University College in charge of orientation and outreach, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Beth was a coordinator in the Intensive English Language Program at the University of New Orleans.
Beth has been interested in traveling abroad since she was a child and had the opportunity to visit Mexico on various occasions with her family. Beth lived in Buenos Aires, Argentina as an exchange student and eventually met her husband there. She is grateful that her love of meeting and learning from people from different cultures is at the core of her work with international students and scholars at Tulane. Beth is from New Orleans and enjoys sharing some of her city's culture with visitors and newcomers. She also enjoys cooking (some of her favorites are Indian, Mexican, Argentine and local New Orleans cuisine), meeting new people and being inside during a "wonderful" New Orleans rainstorm.
