From May 27 to May 31, our office will be closed.  May 27, Tulane University is closed in observance of Memorial Day.  May 28- May 31, the entire OISS team will be attending the NAFSA Annual Conference.  As the most important annual event for international educators, this conference will provide our team with vital updates and ideas that will help us to better serve our international community. 

If you have any timely requests, such as an OPT, CPT, or Academic Training application or a program extension, please be sure to get complete application to your OISS advisor no later than Friday, May 17 to allow for 3 to 5 business days for processing.  If not, we may not be able to complete your request before the conference. 

During this time, we’ll be monitoring our email for true immigration emergencies, but please be sure to expect a delay in our response.  We’ll still be there if you really need us.

Beth Nazar

Biography

Beth Nazar joined the Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) in 2012. In her current role as Associate Director, Beth supervises a team of professional staff and students to enhance international student engagement therefore supporting international student retention and the professional and personal success of international students and scholars.  Beth is responsible for OISS international student and scholar engagement and outreach to the Tulane community including communications and programming. In addition, Beth leads the International Student Advisory Board which allows international students to represent the needs and concerns of international students at Tulane and to work towards improving the Tulane experience for all international students.

Within the Tulane community,  Beth has been a proxy or representative in the Staff Advisory Council since 2014 and served as Chair of SAC from 2016-2018.  Beth was in the inaugural cohort of the TULI Emerging Leaders Program in 2021. In 2022, she completed the TULI Leadership and Resiliency Coaching program and served as a coach in the Anti Racism Leadership Program. In addition, Beth has volunteered with Krewe Du TU since 2013 and has participated in various Wave of Green days of service.

Beth holds an M.A. in Romance Languages from the University of New Orleans and a B.A. in International Relations with a minor in Latin American Studies from Tufts University. During much of the over twenty years that Beth has been in the field of international education, she has been an active member of NAFSA, frequently volunteering for leadership roles, attending and presenting at conferences.

Before Tulane, Beth was a coordinator in the Intensive English Language Program at the University of New Orleans.  Previously, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Beth worked as an independent ESL teacher and as Assistant to the Dean at Lincoln University College in charge of orientation and outreach.

Beth has been interested in traveling abroad since she was a child and had the opportunity to visit Mexico on various occasions with her family. Beth lived in Buenos Aires, Argentina as an exchange student and eventually met her husband there. She is grateful that her love of meeting and learning from people from different cultures is at the core of her work with international students and scholars at Tulane. Beth is from New Orleans and enjoys sharing some of her city's culture with visitors and newcomers. She also enjoys cooking (some of her favorites are Indian, Mexican, Argentine and local New Orleans cuisine), meeting new people and being inside during a "wonderful" New Orleans rainstorm.
